Demolition of the existing Visitor’s Center and site work has begun to make way for the new Gateway to URI Welcome Center.

The new Gateway Welcome Center will be built near the Gates on Upper College Road tucked in between the TI Building and the Memorial Tree Park on the corner of Upper College Rd and Briar Lane.  These trees, which are to be protected throughout the duration of the project, were planted in memory of students and faculty who lost their lives during World War I.

The new $6.5M, 11,000 sf wood framed building, designed by DBVW Architects of Providence, has been designed to achieve LEED Silver Certification.  The building consists of a large, inviting Welcome Room with wall mounted video display units, beverage station and plenty of seating to welcome some of the new and prospective students and families to the campus.  There are multiple offices, restrooms, private meeting rooms and two large state of the art presentation areas.

The project is schedule for completion in August of 2018.
